MedCases is an ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME). We design and execute innovative, case-based, independent medical education initiatives for physicians and other health care practitioners. Since 1999, we have been developing educational initiatives in cardiovascular medicine, infectious disease, endocrinology, oncology, gastroenterology, neurology and psychiatry, respiratory, reproductive medicine, immunology, dermatology, hematology, ophthalmology, surgery, and surgical sub-specialties.

There are some significant distinctions in how our model of medical education helps improve the clinical competencies and practice skills that ultimately deliver better patient care.

Independent and Scientifically Rigorous Education

The most detailed, in-depth, and fair-balanced content from multiple evidence-based sources is effectively brought together into a case-based learning methodology. Our content is developed by an in-house medical services team of experts with significant clinical experience, under extensive guidance from leading physicians and researchers in the world. Almost all of our initiatives also include an independent and respected academic, society, or community health system partner. This ensures a high level of quality, and leads to initiatives that address the real educational needs and barriers to care for practicing clinicians.

Unconventional Case-Based Formats

We develop imaginative and engaging case-based models in live, interactive online as well as print formats. Our interactive case simulations provide an immersive clinical decision making learning experience, which helps develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. We have developed nearly 1,000 case simulations since 1999. Our live case workshops are designed to encourage peer-to-peer discussion and provide a thought provoking learning environment that teaches by comparison and benchmarking.

Large Scale Educational Initiatives

Almost all of our initiatives are designed to provide learners a multiple-interaction sequential learning opportunity. Learning is reinforced over time, and knowledge and behavior changes are developed in stages. Multiple activities are blended together in a serial-learning educational platform, often supported by multiple grantors and usually made possible by extensive collaboration between several best-of-breed partners.

CaseMetrix™

Our proprietary CaseMetrix™ methodology integrates level 4 outcomes assessment into our long-term serial learning educational initiatives. This methodology is more objective than a survey-driven methodology, even if case-based. Over an extended timeframe, it objectively analyzes the impact of education on clinical reasoning of learners, which is strongly correlated with changes in practice habits and clinical behaviors. It also enables an objective identification of new knowledge gaps and needs for ongoing educational interventions.
