MedCases was founded in 1999 by physician educators with the vision of becoming a leading provider of high-quality medical education for students, residents and practicing physicians in multiple specialties. Initially, using a pioneering problem-based approach to online interactive learning, ‘virtual cases’ were developed that simulated the experience of clinical practice. The content of these cases was created from independent evidence-based sources and was designed to strengthen the learner’s understanding of best practices in patient evaluation and treatment. Several cases in the areas of core competency dictated by various medical specialty societies and by the ACGME were developed and were made available to physicians through medical education portals and also to academic medical institutions as a teaching tool.

The program was expanded to include case-based initiatives supported by external organizations such as specialty societies and biopharmaceutical companies. In 2003, the program was further expanded to include multiple educational formats such as didactic lectures and discussion panels. Enduring materials were also incorporated into activities to enhance value and expand participation. In 2004, MedCases launched its ‘Point-of-Care’ CME activity which was an innovative three step education process that followed physicians from learning best practices and treatment guidelines, to applying that learning in a simulated setting, to continued evaluation of practice behavior and patient outcomes.

In 2006, MedCases was acquired by Indegene, Inc. Indegene, Inc. is a large global provider of knowledge services that works closely with the medical community and healthcare industry in multiple countries including the United States, Europe, India, Asia Pacific (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Korea, Vietnam), Australia and the Middle-East (UAE, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia). With more than 350 professionals, Indegene is pioneering scientifically rigorous, independent, innovative, evidence-based medical education in these geographies.

The rigorous case-based educational model steadily at the core of all MedCases activities has rapidly grown in acceptance and popularity amongst physicians and other health care practitioners all over the world. MedCases aims to continue to combine independent and detailed content with adult learning principles, novel ideas and sophisticated case-based medical education formats. MedCases also aims to build global medical education platforms that enable health care practitioners across countries to share the latest evidence, research and clinical practices. This can enable them to tackle global challenges with global knowledge, ultimately impacting patient care positively in many countries.

We believe that case-based education is one of the most powerful forms of medical education and can be made much more effective, engaging, measurable and global than it is today.
